San Diego's salt air, sun and moisture are hard on metal and finishes. Barrio Logan Powder Coating & Sandblasting provides marine/coastal-grade protective coatings for boat hardware, coastal property metalwork and specialty materials, choosing the coating system for each part based on its material, exposure and use.
Marine/Coastal-Grade Powder Coating
When a part can go in a curing oven, powder coating is often still the toughest choice. We use super durable powder formulations rated for marine and coastal exposure, built for UV, salt and weather resistance. Learn more about our powder coating services.
Zinc-Free Epoxy Primer System, Standard on Exterior Work
Most exterior steel and aluminum projects receive our superior zinc-free epoxy primer system as standard, regardless of where the item will be used. Paired with a super durable topcoat, it adds a corrosion-resistant barrier for better adhesion and longer service life.
Liquid Marine Coating Systems
Some parts cannot go in an oven: oversized items, assemblies with seals or bushings, or heat-sensitive materials. For these we apply marine-grade liquid systems, including epoxy primers, zinc-rich primers and polyurethane topcoats. The right system is confirmed after we review your photos or specifications.
Marine Hardware We Coat
- Cleats, hinges, anchor rollers and deck fittings
- Bow rails, T-tops, bimini frames and outriggers
- Hatches, doors, tables, steps and aluminum brackets

Beyond Steel & Aluminum
We also coat many materials beyond steel and aluminum. Each item is evaluated for heat tolerance and coating compatibility; depending on the part, we may recommend powder coating, Cerakote or a liquid coating system.

Marine & Specialty FAQ
Do you repair or refit boats?
No. We coat parts — we don't repair boats or perform hull, fiberglass or general refit work. We regularly coat hardware and components from personal boats, visiting yachts and commercial vessels, but the part comes off the vessel and comes to us.
Do you remove parts from the boat?
No — hardware should be removed before you bring it in. If you're not sure how to remove a part, call or text the shop at 619-314-9030 and we'll talk it through.
What coating system do you use on marine parts?
It depends on the part. Parts that can be oven cured get super durable, marine/coastal-grade powder coating — and most exterior steel and aluminum work also gets our zinc-free epoxy primer as standard. Parts that can't take oven heat get liquid systems such as epoxy primers and polyurethane topcoats. The shop confirms the system for your part before work begins.
Can you coat stainless, fiberglass, plastic or wood parts from a boat?
Often, yes — case by case. Stainless, brass and copper are common. Fiberglass, plastics and wood are reviewed for heat tolerance and coating compatibility. Send photos and we'll confirm what's possible.
How long will the finish last in saltwater?
We don't make blanket lifespan promises — it depends on the part, its exposure and how it's used. That's why we choose the coating system for each part and confirm it with you before work begins.
I'm only in port for a short time. Can you work with that?
Turnaround depends on the shop's current schedule. Call or text 619-314-9030 with your dates and what you need coated, and we'll tell you straight what's possible.
