Why Wheel Owners Choose Barrio
Real Surface Prep, Not a Scuff-and-Spray
Old paint, clear coat and powder are removed and the wheel is sandblasted to clean metal. Light curb rash and surface corrosion are smoothed out during prep so the new finish goes on a clean, even surface.
Oven-Cured Durability
Powder is cured in our electric curing oven for a tough, chip-resistant finish that stands up to brake dust, road grime and San Diego's coastal air. Many powder formulations contain zero or near-zero VOCs.
Two Flexible Service Paths
Drop off bare wheels, or choose our premium full-service package and bring the car or truck to us.
Two Ways to Get Your Wheels Done
Drop Off Wheels Only
Bring us bare wheels with tires, valve stems, TPMS sensors and wheel weights already removed. This is the simplest and most budget-friendly option if you or your tire shop handle mounting and balancing.
Premium Full Service (Cars & Trucks)
Drop off the vehicle and we coordinate wheel removal, tire dismounting, coating, remounting and balancing. Full service is a premium service with premium pricing; availability and scheduling are confirmed when you request a quote. Motorcycle wheels are handled as wheels only.
How We Prep and Coat Wheels
- Inspection of the wheel's condition and material
- Stripping old paint, clear coat or powder and removing corrosion
- Sandblasting and smoothing light curb rash and surface imperfections
- Cleaning, outgassing and masking bead seats, hub and lug areas as needed
- Powder coating and oven curing in your chosen color and finish
Brake Calipers
We also offer an in-place high-temperature caliper coating that does not require removing the calipers. For powder coating or Cerakote, calipers must be removed and fully disassembled before delivery. See our automotive powder coating page for details.
See Your Color First
When you submit your quote request, you can request an optional digital color rendering of your wheels: up to 3 wheels, or 1 wheel shown in up to 3 colors. It's a digital visual approximation to help you decide, not guaranteed for 100% color or gloss accuracy, and some custom manufacturer colors may not be eligible. Every wheel is prepped in our sandblasting bay and cured in our 100% electric oven in San Diego.
How Wheel Jobs Are Quoted
Prices depend on wheel size, condition, finish and the service path you choose, so we don't publish blind prices. Send a clear photo of the face of one wheel, the diameter, quantity and your preferred color through our Request a Quote form, or call or text 619-314-9030.
Wheel & Rim FAQ
Can you powder coat wheels with curb rash?
Yes, for surface rash. Our prep includes sandblasting away the old finish and smoothing out light curb rash and corrosion before coating. Bent, cracked or structurally damaged wheels should be repaired by a wheel repair specialist first. Send photos and the shop will tell you what it sees.
How long does wheel powder coating take?
Turnaround depends on the shop's current schedule and the finish you choose; we'll give you our current timeline with your quote. Rush orders may be possible depending on availability; additional fees apply and rush is not guaranteed.
Do you powder coat both aluminum and steel wheels?
Yes. We coat factory and aftermarket aluminum alloy wheels as well as steel truck and classic wheels, with prep and curing suited to each. Multi-piece (2- and 3-piece) wheels are welcome when they arrive disassembled.
Do I need to remove the tires?
For wheels-only drop off, yes — tires, valve stems, sensors and wheel weights must be removed. With the premium full-service package for cars and trucks, we coordinate that for you.
How many photos do I need to send?
A clear photo of the face of one wheel is usually enough, plus close-ups of any damage. You don't need to photograph every wheel or the back of the rim.
Can you coat center caps and lug nuts?
Metal parts can usually be coated. Plastic center caps can't go through our curing oven, so they're left uncoated or replaced. Mention them in your quote and the shop will advise.
